We recommend the New Haven Free Public Library’s (NHFPL) Summer Learning Program! The attached flyer has information about Summer Learning, where your child can sign up for a library card, get a Summer Reading Log, and participate in fun activities.
The NHFPL Fair Haven branch is also offering a summer program called READy for the Grade, which is designed for students entering K-3rd grade who are below grade level in reading.
Also attached is information about other summer reading programs from nearby businesses that may interest your child. Your child can participate in more than one summer reading program at a time! Prizes for reading include two free tickets to a Hartford Yard Goats baseball game, free personal pizzas from Pizza Hut, and a free book from Barnes & Noble bookstore.

1.Participation & Eligibility Please be advised that participation in the graduation ceremony and all 8th-grade end-of-year activities is a privilege. Eligibility for these events is conditional upon student behavior and academic standing through the final days of school. Behavior: Students must remain in good behavioral standing. (Major infractions or unsafe conduct will result in a student being ineligible for year-end activities).
2.Promotion Logistics Certificates: Following the ceremony, graduation certificates will be available for collection by Student/families outside (under school canopy).

We are writing to let you know that our eighth-graders are experiencing a delay on their return trip to New Haven.
Our bus is currently safely stopped in Greenwich. Due to the massive, regional gridlock caused by the presidential visit and NBA Finals game in New York City tonight, our travel time was severely delayed. Because of these historic traffic conditions, our driver reached the strict federal legal limit for continuous driving hours and, by law, is not permitted to drive any further.
What you need to know:
- The students are safe: Everyone is safe, accounted for, and remaining comfortable on the bus with their chaperones.
- A new driver is on the way: The bus company has already dispatched a replacement driver to take over the remainder of the trip.
- Estimated timeline: We have about one hour of travel time remaining once the new driver arrives. We will send another update with a specific Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) as soon as the new driver is on site and we are back on the road.
We understand this adds an unexpected delay to your evening. We deeply appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate these unusual circumstances to ensure a safe ride home for our students.

Our staff responded immediately, and the situation was quickly resolved. At no point was there a threat to the broader school community. The lockdown has been lifted, and we have returned to our normal schedule.

To all Parents/Guardians of students in 5-8th grade Good Afternoon, please be reminded the district mandate states that students are to put their cellphones in a Yondr bag during school hours. There are a few students who may have taken those bags home accidentally and we are asking that they return them tomorrow. There is a $30 lost bag fee.
